50 Years of Opportunity
What a full and fun-filled weekend at the Iowa Dept. for the Blind Oct. 30 & 31. We had a great turnout for our Open House, client speaker's panel and awards ceremony on Friday, and also at Saturday's Public Transit Forum and the Alumni Banquet.
We had speakers from the Iowa Department of Transportation and Sen. Chuck Grassley talk about public transportation issues facing Iowa. Consultant Bill Troe discussed recommendations the DOT is providing to the state legislature Dec. 1 about improvements to transit across Iowa. Audience members were able to share their concerns and opinions on the recommendations and received some feedback from the speakers.
The alumni banquet was a great opportunity for Orientation Center alumni to get re-acquainted with fellow alumni and Orientation Center staff. The Department honored Jim Witte for his ongoing dedication and service to the Department for the Blind during the last 50 years.
