Social Security 2010 Amounts & Limits
The Social Security Administration has announced that monthly Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security benefit amounts will not increase in 2010. Also, the Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) amount for blindness will remain at $1,640 per month for 2010. The Trial Work amount for Social Security Disability beneficiaries will increase to $720 on January 1, 2010.
By statute, the Social Security Administration uses the Consumer Price Index to determine whether an annual Cost-of-Living increase is needed and, if so, the amount of the increase. Since the Consumer Price Index did not increase between 2008 and 2009, no Cost-of-Living increase to the monthly benefits amounts or the blindness SGA are warranted.
